Projectors

sony vpl-cs21Using a data projector to present your work is becoming increasingly commonplace these days. Image clarity, brightness, portability and ease of setup are important factors in choosing which one to use from the very many that are on the market.

Projectors used to be the reserve of corporations and colleges. But prices have drop so much that they can be one of the cheapest bits in a photographer’s kit. Size and weight have shrunk too, that now they can be smaller even than your laptop.

But still they are not the sort of item you can have a look at in a shop. Most are sold either online or through specialist audio/visual distributors. If you buy one your choice is either just pot luck or a similar model to one you’ve seen someone else use. So people are always asking for recommendations.

I’m now on my second Sony. Why second you ask?… simple, I purchased the first one for another company but I ended up doing all their presentations as well. My current one I’ve had since last spring. Its a SONY VPL-CS21 and its a little sweetie. The CX version is the higher resolution version and I was a bit worried at the time that I’d made the wrong choice, but even when the CS interpolates up to my MacBook Pro’s full res its still crisp sharp and impressive. At the time there was several hundred pounds difference between the two models, but now that difference has also shrunk and the CX is the easy choice.

Apart from its size and attractiveness (good looks are always handy at a presentation!) one of the neatest things is the powered Tilt and auto setup… when you switch it on it simply tilts to its last remembered position, auto corrects the Keystone and auto focuses.

Models are always updating and I bet you have your favourites too.
