The Essential Guide to Freelancing – Paul Herrmann
Paul Herrmann, Director of Redeye, The Photography Network, and a freelance photographer for 20 years, goes through the steps essential for freelance survival and success.
He will start with an overview of the freelance market, including a look at recent survey results on what freelances really get up to. Paul will then look briefly at setting up, marketing, pricing, copyright, licensing, cash flow and fundraising, and some legal matters; where to turn if you’re stuck, and where to go for advice and inspiration.

Introduction to Large Format – David Ward
David Ward is one of Britain’s most accomplished large format photographers. Many of you will know of him from his writings in the photographic press, his connection to Light and Land and his books Landscape within and the more recent joint venture with Working the Light.
‘The slow ritual of creating an image with a view camera invites you to anticipate the future rather than react to the present. Using an L.F. camera can make your images less superficial and more insightful – in fact, it might just teach you to really see for the first time. ‘ This seminar is meant as an introduction for those who are wanting to make a move to Large Format and to understand the applying of camera movements.

The Hidden Life of the Fine Art Portfolio – Lorna-Mary Webb & Rhonda Wilson
- What goes inside it and how and where to show them.
rhubarb-rhubarb is a West Midlands based photography training and development agency. we curate exhibitions nationally and internationally and provide networks for selling, publishing and offering support to buyers and commissions.
We also run rhubarb -rhubarb international festival of the image – considered one of the best photo reviews in Europe, running every year in July in Birmingham. rhubarb flies in reviewers from all over the world and photographers buy time slots with them, resulting in collaborations, publications exhibitions and representations. Rhonda Wilson MBE, creative director of rhubarb-rhubarb will be discussing the secrets behind a memorable portfolio and how to present yourself and your work to an international audience.

Life Coaching – John Cole
Life Coaching is about bringing clarity to your life and your career. It helps you look at where you are and where you want to be. If you’re serious about making changes in your career, life coaching can help you accomplish all that you set out to do. This will be a very hands-on workshop where you will be asked to participate so that you can personally experience the benefits of life coaching.
John has worked as a freelance photojournalist for over 25 years, in the editorial and corporate marketplace. In 2001, he graduated (Distinction) from the UK College of Coaching and has since worked with over three hundred individual clients, mainly photographers and graphic designers.

Get into print! – Chris Dickie
Photo publishing expert Chris Dickie talks about how to get your photography into print, in particular using the latest technology to publish your own photobooks.
Chris Dickie publishes Ag magazine and books on photography through his company Picture-Box Media. He has been publishing photography for over 25 years, including 16 years as Editor and Publisher of British Journal of Photography. His most recent book, Photo Projects: Plan & Publish Your Photography in Print & on the Internet, is published by Argentum.

Digital Storage & Archiving for Photographers – Paul Ellis
Paul presents basic concepts and methods for assembling a network of computers and storage media in order to effectively, efficiently and safely process, catalogue and archive the massive amounts of picture data generated by today’s high-resolution digital capture devices. AOP member, Paul David Ellis is a photographer working mainly in the editorial field.

Photography & Copyright – Gwen Thomas
This talk on copyright and licensing will be given by Gwen Thomas, Executive Director, Business and Legal Affairs, at the Association of Photographers. This seminar will provide a guide to what rights you have in your work and how to license and protect it.
The talk will be followed by slides illustrating possible photographic infringements and an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues raised.
