Photo Editors – a new generation?

Rob Haggart, a photo editor himself, has interviewed Ryan Schick who is the photo editor at Condé Nast’s Portfolio.com, where he sources all the daily news pictures and develops larger photo essay projects.

Ryan embraces new technology  and uses Instant Messaging facilities to communicate on a daily basis with photographers. He also finds photographer’s blogs a great way to keep up to date with their latest thoughts and projects, because their news feds are directly available in his web browser (just like here on Prodig). But he’s also impressed by the photographer who has taken the long-term investment strategy of developing personal relationships with his or her editors.
