Redeye in collaboration with Manchester Art Gallery is delighted to welcome Melanie Manchot for the first in a series of three Thursday evening talks, running alongside the current photographic exhibition, Focal Points.
Melanie Manchot studied at New York University before completing her MFA in Photography at the Royal College of Art, London in 1992.
Working with photography, video, film and sound her practice explores performative and participatory situations, often in relation to public space. The work is located at the threshold between the documentary and staged events, looking at individuals in relation to communities or collective experiences.
Manchot has exhibited widely with recent solo shows at The Whitechapel Gallery, London, 2009 and 2010; Goff and Rosenthal, New York, 2007 and Galerie m, Bochum, Germany, 2007 and 2011. She has participated in numerous biennales, such as 52nd La Biennale di Venezia, Venice, 2007; Thessaloniki Biennale and Istanbul Biennale both 2009.
