OS X 10.4.7 helps Photoshop

osxApple have just released Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update

Amongst other things the following benefits are listed…

  • Improves compatibility for Adobe Photoshop CS2 by preventing menu items being highlighted if the cursor was in an image’s zoom field.
  • Prevents certain Adobe and Quark applications from unexpectedly quitting when saving a file to a non-Apple AFP server.

Its usually advisable to allow a few days for initial bugs to be ironed out before getting the Updater.

Microsoft grabs iView Media

Microsoft has aquired iView Multimedia whose Media Pro asset management tool is used by many professional photographers. The precise reason for this aquisition is not clear, although it has only been a matter of time and the right price before before someone snapped them up. So far iView has been sold as single licenses and it may be that Microsoft could bring the ability to allow iView to be used as a network tool.

Adobe adds Pixmantec to Lightroomâ„¢

Ex-AOP MD authors Aperture Tutorial

aperture Apple has published an extensive Aperture online tutorial, aimed at letting Aperture users learn how to use the application better in just ten steps.

Written by former MD of the Association of Photographers, Jonathan Briggs, the tutorial offers a selection of keyboard short-cuts and ten easy-to-comprehend notes covering a variety of the application’s functions.

Hints include easy ways to navigate through projects, use of the Loupe tool, moving between viewing angles, suggestions for effective use of tabbed browsing, and shortcuts for using full-screen view when working on an image.

iviewPress Release: iView Multimedia has released a free update to its flagship digital asset management program iView MediaPro.

Version 3.1.1 provides the following improvements and enhancements:

• Improved support for IPTC metadata during file synchronization, including the reinstatement of support for IPTC legacy metadata. The IPTC block is now UTF-8 encoded and fully inclusive (i.e it contains all iView supported fields).

Lightroom 3.0 Beta released for Mac

Bob Carlos ClarkeSusannah Price has written an appreciation in the Sunday Times of Bob Carlos Clarke, who died suddenly this March.

“Can the signs of his violent end be seen in his edgy, sexually charged work?
Subversive, voyeuristic, controversial – words used again and again to describe the sexually charged photographs taken by Bob Carlos Clarke, who died suddenly in March, aged 55. He was known for photographing stars such as Jerry Hall, Rachel Weisz and Jodie Kidd, but he was just as keen to work with unknown teenage girls he spotted in the street. Advertising agencies also sought him out, knowing he would bring something intriguing to their campaigns.”
