PRESS RELEASE: EXIF Data – Analyze, Compare, Improve
Two Pilots has released a new version of Exif Pilot for viewing, editing, and creating the EXIF and IPTC data of photographs.Digital photography allows you not only to catch an interesting picture of life and to get it into a computer for further demonstration, but it also automatically records parameters used when taking the image. The additional data records have a special format called EXIF. EXIF data include date, time, and technical parameters such as lens aperture, exposure time, ISO, flash energy, focal length and more. Both amateur and professional photographers often need to analyze the quality of images depending on parameters they were taken with. Exif Pilot is software designed for EXIF and IPTC data analysis and comparing the parameters for a number of images. EXIF data are shown in a simple table without the need for difficult adjustment. In View mode, supported file formats are the following: JPEG, TIFF, PNG, DNG, NEF, CRW, JP2, PSD and RAW files (including CR2, MRW, ARW PEF, SR2, ORF, and RAF types).Editing and creating EXIF data are features demanded by digital camera users. In Edit mode, Exif Pilot support these file formats: JPEG, TIFF, PNG, DNG, NEF, PEF, CRW, and JP2.EXIF data can be edited by:

Thanks to Bob for this breaking news…
For all of those interested in software advances , Funino ( Japan ) have developed a new sensing software for digital cameras along the lines of face recognition. It’s a “golden ratio ” algorithm that detects composition based on the Fibonacci sequence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibonacci_number). It disables the shutter release until you achieve perfect composition either in the viewfinder or on live video.
Also in the pipeline is a software solution for lens selection . The idea is that you only have to buy one wide angle lens for each camera system and all other focal lengths are interpolated . Apparently the beta software is so good that you only need the bottom of a milk bottle set in to a toilet roll holder with sticky backed plastic to get images good enough for 48 sheet posters.
And finally they are looking at that bit of software we all need , one that uses aura recognition to detect if the client is happy . The bad news is that their promised software to manipulate client attitude or extend copy deadlines will still not be available until this time next year.

As a result you may find posts from Prodig and the Prodig Listmoms get caught in the spam trap! The upshot is that our emails to you repeatedly get bounced and after a while our server puts you on ‘hold’. If you don’t do anything about it your subscription will eventually get trashed.

London, UK
Monday 16th February 2009 is the enforcement date for Section 76 of the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008. As the British Journal of Photography (BJP) wrote last month,
“The relationship between photographers and police could worsen next month when new laws are introduced that allow for the arrest – and imprisonment – of anyone who takes pictures of officers ‘likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’.â€

So with that the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has teamed up with Mark Thomas (writer, broadcaster, comic and political activist), Chris Atkins (the BAFTA nominated director and writer of the feature film documentary Taking Liberties), Marc Vallée (Photojournalist) and many more for a “media event†outside New Scotland Yard on Monday 16 February 2009.
The plan is simple, turn up with your camera and exercise your democratic right to take a photograph in a public place.
Please note that this event is NOT a Protest! It’s just photography!
 06.02.09: NUJ Media Release:
“Photographers snap into action over new lawâ€
http://www.nuj.org.uk/innerPagenuj.html?docid=1104Comedian Mark Thomas is to join with NUJ members in an event to highlight the threat of a new UK law that could be used against press photographers taking pictures of the police.
The Counter Terrorism Act allows for the arrest and imprisonment of anyone whose pictures are “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorismâ€.
The union is joining with campaigners to organise a mass picture taking session outside London’s police HQ on Monday 16 February – the day the act becomes law.
Mark – who uses his comedy act to expose state and corporate wrongdoing – will be joined outside New Scotland Yard by renowned documentary-maker Chris Atkins, NUJ vice-president Pete Murray and a bevy of photographers.
Photojournalist and NUJ member Marc Vallée said: “The plan is simple, turn up with your camera and exercise your democratic right to take a photograph in a public place.â€
There have already been cases of photographers stopped from working by police quoting anti-terror laws.
John Toner, the NUJ’s organiser who looks after freelance photographers, said: “Police officers are in news pictures at all sorts of events – football matches, carnivals, state processions – so the union wants to make it clear that taking their pictures is not the act of a criminal.
“Our members are photographers – not terrorists.â€
Roy Mincoff, NUJ Legal Officer, said: “Photographers do not want to endanger the health and safety of the police or the public – but it is important in a democracy that they can do their jobs properly without facing unnecessary legal restrictions.â€
The photo taking will start at 11am outside New Scotland Yard on Broadway, London.
Ends.
Hosted by the National Union of Journalists and supported by the British Journal of Photography and the British Press Photographers’ Association.
